Providing information on the actual situation and case studies of roundabouts in Japan based on the database development
Background and Objectives
In the past two years, the project has clarified the characteristics of the introduction process, consensus building, application scenarios, structures, and challenges of roundabouts in Japan by systematically organizing a database of about 100 itemroundabouts atin each of 130 roundaboutlocations throughout Japan and case studies based on a database. Based on these results, this project will provide information on the actual situation of roundabouts in Japan and severalmany interesting case studies by holding seminars and developing a website.
Through the exchange of opinions at the seminars, information on practical needs and issues will be collected to incorporate them into the contents of the database.
Through these efforts, IATSS contributes to society by promoting the desirable roundabouts that benefit road traffic safety and sustainable urban development.
Expected Results
By widely providing information on the actual situation of roundabouts in Japan through studies conducted at IATSS, this project aims to contribute to society regarding the development of safe and secure road traffic. The social contribution of IATSS study and research activities are to be publicized in various locations.
Enabling online access to the roundabout database through the website will provide useful information to municipalities and the public who are considering implementing the roundabout.
This will support the activities of the Roundabout Promotion Council and contribute to the diffusion of roundabouts in an appropriate manner.
